TOCHNI VILLAGEThe village of Tochni is located between the cities of Larnaca and Limassol; it takes only 25 minutes driving from these cities and 40 minutes from Nicosia. The
beach is found only 5 minutes away and 60 minutes to Troodos. Due to its
geographic location, there is sunshine during the whole day almost
throughout the year. Amongst others, in the village one can find
entertainment in quiet traditional taverns.
The village of Tochni, took its name from the word “art”.
Guided by the Lord, St. Heleni, mother of the Great Constantinou, came
to Cyprus returning from the Holy Places and built up three churches to
the honour of the Holy Cross. At Tochni, the region which was revealed
by the burning stick from the Lord, was exactly in the middle of the
river, in the center of the village. Consequently, St. Heleni, built a
crossing board and on it she build up the church, with stone from the
village, in 327 A.C. Today, one can see the bridge on its whole part of
the old church. After the honour of the Great Constantinou and his mother Heleni to Saints, the church was devoted to them. |
